Boston Blues

Backing the Coyotes tonight against the Bruins

It’s still (extremely) early, but hockey has been good to me so far.

Went 1-1 on the two hockey favorites last time around, but still finished net positive after the Hurricanes covered the -1.5-point spread. Down 2-1 heading into the third period, Carolina netted five straight goals for the cover and the 6-2 victory.

The Devils and Blackhawks (over 6.5) finished at six goals after the Devils scored three in the final period. Too little, too late. Can’t win ‘em all.

Ani finished 1-1 on his favorites, as well, as Jarrett Allen (over 13.5 REB) finished two rebounds shy of his line. Domantas Sabonis, on the other hand, passed his mark of 7.5 AST rather easily.

The vibes are high after my boys in maize and blue took home the National Championship last night. That means either one of two things: we are in store for an epic heater or an epic cold streak. No in between. Let’s find out.

Mitch’s Favorite Picks 🔒

Coyotes ML (+130 / DraftKings) — 0.75 units
Bruins @ Coyotes, 9 PM EST

The Bruins are coming off a frustrating shootout-loss to the Avalanche last night, and have just looked disjointed since the beginning of December.

Since Dec. 7, the Bruins are 7-4-4 after starting the season 17-4-3.

Meanwhile, the Coyotes have lost three straight to start the new year after winning six of seven to close out 2023.

This will be their fourth of five straight home games to kick off 2024, and I’m sure they are eager to get that first win of the new year out of the way and end this skid.

The goalie matchup tonight will likely be the matchup we saw when these two teams squared off a month ago — the Bruins won 5-3. Linus Ullmark has been exceptional as the back-up goalie for Boston this year, with a .917 save percentage and 2.74 GAA, but do not sleep on Connor Ingram. The .828 save percentage and five goals allowed on December 9 was his worst performance of the season, but Ingram has been one of the ten best goalies in the league this year and could be singing a different tune tonight.

With the Bruins on the second-leg of a back-to-back and the Coyotes trying to end their mini skid, I’ll happily lay down 0.75 units at +130.

Ducks / Predators, over 6.5 (+104 / DraftKings) — 1 unit
Ducks @ Predators, 8 PM EST

Neither of these teams is particularly good at stopping the puck. The Predators are 15th in goals allowed per game, while the Ducks are ninth-worst.

Combined, these two teams allow an average of 6.4 goals per game.

The Ducks just lost promising young defenseman Jamie Drysdale in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, so the defense could take some time to adjust with new units getting ice time together.

The Ducks have only gone over this total twice in their last four games, but the Predators have done so in each of their last two games and in four times in their last six.

I’m thinking this one ends 5-2 in favor of Nashville but wouldn’t be surprised if the Ducks put three on the board.
