Hockey Mitch?

Our favorite NHL and NBA bets for tonight's slate

If you forget the picks from the last newsletter, I’ll jog your memory real quick.

I had the Bruins on the 60-minute money line — they lost.

But I also had over 6.5 goals in the Ducks / Hurricanes game.

Because I am the greatest hockey bettor to ever grace the earth, Carolina did, indeed, score six goals that night. And friend of the newsletter, Peter, was the first to pat me on the back for it.

I’m a little offended by the “wow” — I don’t get what’s so surprising. I would expect a “wow” if the Hurricanes hand’t scored six and I had been wrong. Don’t doubt Hockey Mitch.

And yes, I am going to conveniently ignore the Bruins’ miserable performance that night because it doesn’t support my narrative.

Mitch’s Favorite Picks 🔒

William Nylander, over 3.5 SOG (-135 / FanDuel) — 1.5 units | over 4.5 SOG (+162 / FanDuel) — 0.75 units
Maple Leafs @ Flames, 9 PM EST

Nylander has had at least five shots on goal in six of his past eight games, including each of his past two. He’s gone over the 3.5 shots on goal mark in 69 percent of his games this season and eight times in his past ten contests.

In the Leafs’ first matchup against the Flames a couple months back, Nylander put up seven shots on goal.

This base mark should hit easily, and I like the +162 odds for just one more shot on goal.

Rangers / Golden Knights, under 5.5 (+110 / FanDuel) — 1 unit
Rangers @ Golden Knights, 10 PM EST

This line is currently -122 on DraftKings, which honestly makes much more sense. With Jack Eichel heading to the IR, the Golden Knights are now without two of their top three points leaders (William Karlsson).

Both these teams have strong defenses, and the Rangers have one of the best goalies in the world in Igor Shesterkin, who has been dominant in his last two appearances. Logan Thompson is no slouch, though, with a .943 save percentage and a 1.76 GAA over his past four games.

There have been five or fewer goals scored in seven of the Golden Knights’ last eight games and in two of the Rangers’ last three.

Being able to get this under at plus-money is massive. I would play this down to -105.

Ani’s Favorite Picks 🔒

Scottie Barnes, over 5.5 AST (+105 / FanDuel) — 1 unit
Bulls @ Raptors, 7:30 PM EST

Without Pascal Siakam, Barnes will be running the show. He had 12 potential assists last night in a blowout, so a closer game tonight (two-point spread) should yield as many, if not more, potential assists for Barnes. He’s hit this mark in three of his past five games and is averaging 5.6 assists per game this season.
