Hockey is the way

I went to a comedy show last night at the Comedy Cellar in New York City. If you’ve never been there, it’s a phone-free show. They make you seal your phones in an envelope for the entirety of the show to limit distractions and to allow everyone to focus on the comedians.
These people must not have known that I had just retired from NBA betting and how big of a night last night was for me… my NHL betting debut. I was desperate to check the scores. I needed to know if I had a future in this or if I needed to retire from gambling altogether.
Instead, I listened to these folks crack their jokes, while I silently prayed that the puck was bouncing my way.
At the end of the show, we unsealed the envelope and I opened my phone to this message from Ani:

Am I the greatest NHL bettor of all time? Jury’s still out. But it’s hard to ignore that unblemished record right now.
Ani was able to win one of his two favorites, missing on Lillard by 1.5 points. Giannis hit his assist mark (barely), giving us a highly profitable 4-1 night.

Blackhawks / Devils, over 6.5 (-118 / FanDuel) — 1 unit
Blackhawks @ Devils, 7 PM EST
Taking the over here in a game where a really bad goalie is squaring off against a really strong offense.
The Blackhawks are on the second leg of a back-to-back, losing 4-1 to the Rangers last night in New York. That means that Arvid Soderblom is in net tonight for Chicago.
Of the 48 goalies with at least 15 appearances this year, Soderbloom ranks 46th with a .874 save percentage and 48th with a 4.01 GAA. Yuck.

The Devils offense, led by Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt, is seventh in the league in goals for and first in power play percentage. There should be plenty of chances to put pucks in the net tonight against a defense that allows the fourth-most shots per game and has the sixth-worst penalty kill percentage.
Hurricanes -1.5 (+145 / DraftKings) — 0.75 units
Hurricanes @ Capitals, 7 PM EST
The Capitals have lost five of their last six and are allowing north of four goals per game during that stretch. The Hurricanes, on the other hand, have won five of their last seven, including four wins by two or more goals (over the likes of New York (R), Vegas, Nashville, and Montreal).
The Capitals have an old, slow and mediocre roster, while the Hurricanes are extremely quick and sharp, have outstanding goalie play, and they’re one of the best teams in the league at putting the puck in the back of the net.
With these odds, I think this is absolutely worth a play.
